If you are a WALKER, please be advised that we have recently transitioned registration away from ACTIVE and all Walkers are being asked to REGISTER at http://www.crowdrise.com/thefastandthefurriest.

2012 Event Summary:

Last June, the speedy and furry came out in droves to enjoy the festivities and demonstrate their support for Rochester Animal Services. The event drew nearly 500 registered runners and over 160 dog walkers. The 2012 event was responsible for generating over $47,000, which was used to support the animal shelter through pet adoption promotions, spay and neuter surgeries, microchip identification tags, and veterinary supplies.

The day begins with the 10K race at 8 a.m The which is signature event and highlights downtown Rochester, Corn Hill Landing, the Genesee River Trail, the University of Rochester, and the Animal Services Center. The course record is an impressive 32:08 set by Chris Moorman in 2008.

Just 15 minutes after the 10K begins, the 5K will start. The 5K course is contained within the first leg of the 10K and highlights many of the same landmarks including downtown, the Corn Hill Neighborhood, and the Genesee River. Nick End holds the record from 2011 with a time of 15:40. Both races share the finish line at the Animal Services Center on Verona Street.

Runners finish amidst a crowd of cheering friends and participants, grab some water and nourishment from the race hospitality booth, and then relax to the live acoustic rock of Travis Fitch. After the race awards ceremony, Polluted Moon will take the stage to continue entertaining while participants explore the exhibitor tent, participate in pet contests, or visit with animals available for adoption.

Bring your family, friends and pets out to cheer you on and participate in the dog walk. Its a lot of fun to watch the parade of hundreds of dogs of all shapes, sizes, breeds, colors, and coats.

Registration is open now at www.VSAS.org for the 10K, 5K and the dog walk. Grab some friends, form a team, and start gathering pledges now to support our furry friends. They need you! The event features a team competition with special recognition and prizes for the team that raises the most money for the animal shelter. There are also prizes for the top individual fundraisers.

Avoid the lines and stress associated with event-day registration and check-in. Visit either Fleet Feet location on June 6th and 7th for pre-registration and packet pick-ups for runners. This event is fun for the whole family, even the dog. So get your training schedules out, mark it on the calendar, and we will look forward to seeing you on Verona Street for The Fast & The Furriest 2013.
